Traces Lowenstein's life from his formative childhood influences to his involvement in the 1950's with human rights in South Africa, his efforts in the Civil Rights Movement in the60's and his active opposition to U. S. involvement in Vietnam. Concludes with his untimely shooting death in March 1980 by a former campaign worker, later declared insane.
